Mr. Frasor Mackenzie, chief Government valuer, is seriously ill in a Wellington private hospital. Tom Heaney was reported in tlm Cape Argus of January 8 to have visited Capetown that week and to have left for Johannesburg. Captain E. I’. O. Boyle, M.V.0., who was military secretary to the late Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, left Wellington by the Maunganui. en route to Great Britain. The long term of 50 years’ service has just been completed by Alv. A. D. Stewart, counting-house manager in the Auckland warehouse of Messrs. Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd. Colonel C. Guy Powles, C.M.G., D. 5.0., has consented to accept the appointment, as principal of Flock House station, vice Captain F. H. BiJlington, who has lately resigned. Colonel Powles '''•ill take up residence at Flock House early next month. Air. L. A. Pftish, His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, arrives in Gisborne from Napier on Tuesday evening, and will remain here on Wednesday, leaving again on Thursday morning.
