DENTAL CLINIC

(To the Editor of the Horald.) Sir, —I gather from recent, correspondence appearing in your esteemed paper that there is a possibility of the dental clinic closing because of the lack of public support; public support in this instance, as in most instances, meaning financial help. It, has been stated that the Health Department should bear the whole cost, of (this important work, and while this is perhaps correct in theory, the fact remains that if financial support is not forthcoming the clinic will close, and theory will n'o more-look after the children’s teeth than a scarecrow will keep frosts from your kitchen garden. Health records prove that millions of pounds can be saved a country annually if adequate protection is afforded in the early stages of dental disease. Surely, then, Gisborne can rise to the occasion, and by subscribing the small amount that is necessary, retain the services of the clinic, and thus ensure that the school children shall not be deprived of the undoubted benefits that this free service provides.—Yours, etc., HATRED.
