AERODROME SITE

PROPOSED £SOOO LOAN BOROUGH'S SHARE £2857 .A formal resolution to raise a Joan •of £.3000, to be shared by the borough and the Cook and Waikohu counties, for tbe provision of an aerodrome for the district, was passed unanimously at las! evening's meeting of the Borough Council. The resolution was the outcome of a conference betwecu representatives of the local bodies concerned on January 31, and the purpose of the loan is to enable a site to be purchased at a cost of £3IOO, the balance of £I9OO, upon which application is to be made for Government subsidy as an unemployment -relief work, to be utilised for the levelling of the ground. The Mayor, Mr. I>. W. Coleman, moved the resolution, which was seconded by Cf. P. Collin, who remarked that the council was taking a step in the right direct ion. Tlie resolution, which was fnuncil under the Local Authorities Empowering (Aviation I'Jiiconragemeiit) Act, 1929, and part 2 of the Local Bodies Loans Act, l!>2(i. and also under the Local Authorities Empowering (Relief of Unemployment) Act, 192(5, road as follows: — "That the Cisboine Borough Council, under the [towers of the Acts mentioned, hereby decides to raise a joint special loan of fcIOOO for the purpose of establishing an aerodrome for the district, and that the council shall act as agent for the other local authorities. for all the purposes in relation to the loan. Such loan to be proportioned as follows: —Gisborne Borough Council, £2837 2s lOd; Cook County Council, £1428 Ids sd; \»nd Waikohu County Council, £7l-1 5s 9d. The balance of the loan, after paying for the site the sum of £3100., amounting to approximately £I9OO, to be deemed as relief work for unemployment loan, as the work of levelling the ground is eminently suitable for relief works, it ibeing practically all labor. That application be made to the Government to subsidise this portion of the loan, and that the necessary steps be taken to give the statutory 14 days' notice by -advertisement: of the council's intention to apply to the Local Government Loans 'Board for sanction to 'borrow £SOOO for the purposes stated.''
