A BELATED START

SEASONS ROAD WORK COOK COUNTY PROGRAMME In view of the itict that arrangements had not been completed with the Main Highways Board and the Public Works Department for the completion of the loan proposals, the Cook County Council has been unable to commence its full season’s programme of road works. Now that the arrangements have been completed, the council is in a position to proceed with a few of the more important works, fob which authorities have been received The start is a late one, with much of tho summer over, but it is hoped to have several of the works under way within a few days and have as much as possible done before the wet season is ushered in. Tenders have been called for a number of these jobs, closing on Thursday. These include the metalling of Panikau road for 72 chains from Thomas’ gate to Williams’ gate, while 117 chains of the Patutahi-Rere road from Deep Creek to Hihiroroa rottd is also included A mile and a-quarter of tile Riverside road from the end of the pfbsent metal at Longbush to Hegarty’s crossing is another of the works for which tenders have been called, (while 12 chains of the Waihirere Domain road arc also included. In addition to the above works, it is indicated that before long, tenders for further metalling will be called. It is not anticipated that a great deal will be accomplished this season in view of the late start, but the council and ratepayers will have the satisfaction of knowing* that matters have been arranged for the completion of the loan work.
