BRITAIN’S BID
FOR ATLANTIC RIBAND HUGE MOTORSinP LONDON, lan, 27. Lord Ivlvsunt, the Shipowner, explains that the White Star Line some time ago decided temporarily to stop work on the steamer Oceanic, which was to be the world’s largest liner, and build two big motor ships instead: The first of these, which is the biggest British motor ship, is already afloat. It is named the Britannic. The building of the second ship is proceeding. Lord Kylsant adds that any other rumors concerning the company are untrue. , , i The Weeklv Dispatch says that- the Britannic is of 27,CC0 tons, Hhe -is driven by two Id-cylinder four-stroke motors, the-largest ever built. Her consumption of oil fuel is 80 tons a day. The Britannic is almost complete, anu her maiden voyages will take place across the Atlantic in April. . , It is understood that the delay hi the building of the Oceanic was due to questions of design and origin power, connected with an attempt to regain the Atlantic speed record for Britain, this is at present held by the German oner Bremen, which made the trip from No\y York to Plymouth in four days lb hours. w
