OBITUARY

The death of Captain Matthew Irvine at Broadstairs, Kent, a few days ago, is announced by a private cablegram. The deceased was in the mercantile marine'in New Zealand maiiy years ago, being in the employ of the Union Steam Ship Co. Captain Irvine brought the s.s. Komata to New Zealand in 1907. ■During the war he was engaged in taking transports to Mesopotamia, and for his good work was awarded the 0.8. E. The deceased married in 1903 Miss Rose Blaney, of Dunedin, daughter of the late Captain John Blaney, and she survives 'her"'husband. 'There were no children.'
