Tnlormalion was received to-day that the auxiliary cutter Mururo, which disappeared from Auckland some months ;igo and which was located at Pago Pago, American Samoa, early in January, has been wrecked. The news came to the Marine Department from Apia, which received ihe information from Pago Pago. No details were given, and it is presumed that tli(> Mariiro came tu grid somewhere in Eastern isainoa. All or hoard, two men, a woman and four children, were reported safe. They are being taken to Apia, and it is understood that arrangements are being r ade to have them returned to New Zealand. I lie Maroro has not been seen by her owners, the Beaver Boat and Engine Co., of Auckland, since November 18. when she loft Auckland with Messrs. K. Fischer. A. B. Walker, Mrs. Fischer and four children, ostensibly for a fortnight’s cruise in the gulf. A report was received on January 7 that the Maroro had arrived at Pago Pago. American Samoa, and was being held because she had no papers. Mr. Peter Smith cabled the American authorities to keep her there until he could go dowp to Samoa to gel his boat. A few days later, however, the Maroro sailed for Apia, and a radio message was sent to Col. S. >S. Allen, Administrator of Western Samoa, asking him to report- her arrival there.
