APPLE POOL CARRIED

POVERTY BAY EXPORTS TO COMMENCE NEXT WEEK Last month a ballot was taken by Poverty Bay fruitgrowers oji a proposal ,to adopt the pooling system in connection with apple exports. Auckland exports had been despatched under a pool for the past few years, while Hawke’s Bay adopted the idea last season. The success of the system in these two districts is reflected in poverty Bay’s interest in the matter. Yesterday afternoon Mr. .T. C. Hardy, secretary of the Poverty Bay Fruitgrowers’ Association, received advice from the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation that the orchardists here had carried the pooling proposal, but no details were given as to the proportion of roc growers in favor of the scheme. Advice was also received that Mr. E. H. Napier, the federation’s manager, would visit Gisborne shortly to explain the system to growers. The first of the Poverty Bay apples for export, a small quantity of Cox’s Orangy Pippins, should be ready for shipment next week, but the season will not commence in earnest till about the. niiduto of next month. The early estimate of the district’s crop was 30,000 eases, and material was Ordered for that quantity. A rceeiit inspection indicates that this estimate is not unduly optimistic.
