TANKER BLOWS UP

EXPLOSION SHAKES TOWN , LONDON, Dec R. Three explosions occurred in the tanker British Chemist, owned by the British Tanker Co., which was lying near the oil depot ai Grangemouth, Fii'fh of Forth. Five men were injured, but iioi seriously, iSixiy feel of the starboard side of the ship above the water line was blown away, and the whole of the fore part became a mass of flames. The town was shaken by the explosions. The ship had discharged her cargo at the time of the explosion, which is thought to have been due to vapor. Thirty of the crew of 40 were aboard.' Some jumped overboard and others scrambled down ladders and ropes to the water ami swam ashore.
