INCREASED TARIFFS
MINISTER'S DISBELIEF THE LESSON OP CANADA (Received Feb. 7, 3 p.m.) REGINA, Pel). 6. Disbelief that increased tariffs as advocated by the Conservatives would solve tlit' problems of Canada or eliminate seasonal difficulties with unemployment was expressed in an address to-night by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Dunning. Experience in other countries proved conclusively the fallacy of the idea, he said, quoting the iTiiited States and Australia, the former having 3,000,000 unemployed aud the latter 150,000. He stated:--"I'tmnihi with a more moderate tariff has much less unemployment than the United States or Australia. The best proof of the soundness of this policy is the tromendous strides Canada has made in the past eight years.'' ______
