INFANT'S ORDEAL

SWALLOWED SAFETY TIN MELBOURNE, Jan. 24. An open safety pin, swallowed by an infant, aged 12 months, presented a problem to doctors at Warracknabeal. An X-ray at the local 'hospital located the pin between the throat and the stomach. The infant was brought to Melbourne, where a special instrument was available, but all efforts to withdraw the pin through the mouth failed. The pin was then pushed into the stomach, and removed when an operation was performed.
