CHRISTCHURCH MAN DROWNED

(Pot Press Association.) CHKISTCHCI.'CiI, Just night. A drowning tragedy occurred af Waiinnii'i Bench, a few miles north of New Brighton, yesterday afternoon, a married man, A. \V. Williamson, of North' Beach, being the victim. 'three 'motor bus drivers, A. \\, Williamson, Frank Mall and J. Pease, together with Max Roberts and Hector Philpott, went on a trawling expedition on Waimairi Beach. When about a quarter of a mile north of the surf Club's pavilion, Williamson and Hall, who were on the shallow end of the line, suddenly found themselves in a channel, and being carried away by a strong undertow. The men, who were heavily clothed, made desperate pfforts to reach the Miore, Philpott going to their assistance. Kvery effort was made to bring Williamson to the shore, hut owing to his violent, struggles the efforts were

unavailing. The other members of the party managed to return safely, but they were quite exhausted.

Members of the Waimairi Surf Club recovered the body. Williamson was a married man, with three children. At the impiesl a verdict of "accidentally drowned" was returned.
