NEW GOVERNOR OF N.S.W. LONDON, Jan. 31. The King has approved the appointment of Air Marshal Sir i hilip Game to be Governor of the State of New South! Wales, in succession to Admiral Sir Dudley do Chair, whose' term of offico will shortly expire. One oi l Sir (Philip Game’s uncles is Sir Henry Wigram, founder of the aeroplane school in Christchurch, from which lou pilots were sent to the war. Sn Henry Wigram was Mayor of Christchurch from 1902-4, and a member of the Legislative Council from 1903 to 1920. He is at present residing m. Christchurch. Air Vice-Marshal Sir Philip Game was born in Worcestershire in 1876, and was educated at Charterhouse, cnteimg the army at the age of 19 yw* s * He was promoted to captaincy in 1901, ana served through the Boer War, gaining the Queen’s Medal, with five clasps, and being mentioned in dispatches for meritorious service. From 1910 to lain ho was attached to the War Office, being given the rank of major in IJIZ, but when the war broke out he returned to his regiment and served throughout tiie conflict from 1914 to 1918 in various capacities. He was mentioned in dispatches five times during his active, service, and received the distinctions CB, D. 5.0., and the Order of the Crown of Italv, besides being created an officer of' the Legion of Honor (France). Ho gained brevet rank as lieutenant-colonel and colonel before (ho close of the war, and later lie was attached to the air force as director of training and organisation at the Air Ministry, a post which he held till 1229. lie then went to India in command of the air force there, ana returned nearly two years later to take up his appointment as Air Member for Personnel on the Air Council, which he held from 1923 to 1923. _ In 1924 his services received recognition in the form of a knighthood. Sir Philip Game has two sons and one daughter.
