VETERAN'S LAST WISH
“TIPPERARY” AT CEMETERY VANCOUVER, Dec. 31. Old.. John Vicars, a-veteran of the Indian campaigns and South African war, jumped into the fray when the Great War loomed, and though terribly over the age, organised and 1 went tq France with the 122nd battalion of cowboys and prospectors from the -cattle ranges in the interior of British Columbia. Last week he died. His last request was to convey a certain •letter to the bandmaster of the regiment. “Don’t open it until I ’an safely lowered into my grave,” ran his instructions. When the envelope was opened, it was that all the way returning .from the cemetery the band must play ‘ *Tipperary. ’ ’ They obeyed the colonel’s final order.
