Fitzherfoert, who whs in charge of New Zealand base records during the war, is making a visit to New Zealand in the interests of his business. Most of his time will be spent in Wanganui. A Sydney cable message states that Sir Owen Cox, chairman and managing director of Messrs. Dirt and Co., Ltd., is retiring, ami will be succeeded by Mr. T. Gordon, who formerly represented the company in New Zealand. 'Fhe King has approved the appointment of Richard Roy Maconachio, of the Indian Political Department, to she His .Majesty’s Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Kabul. The new Minister of Afghanistan was counsellor of the British legation at Kabul from 1922 to 1924.—British Official Wireless.
Sir James Mills, chairman of directors of the Union 'Steam Ship Co., arrived at Auckland by the Rangitata on a health trip, and will spend two months in the Dominion. He stated that his company is building a sister ship to the Aorangi for the transpacific trade, but as lie has been out of touch witn affairs for some timo because of ill-health, he could not sav much about it. Sir James will spend most of his time in Christchurch. A pleasant) social anil dance was held at Tokomaru Bay in honor of Mr. and Airs. F. Shine, who have been associated for some time with the freezing; works, Mr. Shine being leading hand in the freezing chambers. Air. and Mrs. Shine are leaving the dis•trict to settle at Whakatu, and their many friends gathered to compliment ftem upon Air. Shine’s appointment to a post at the works there. Air. J. Corbett acted as Al.Ct, add 'cnjpy.'ible music was supplied by Blair’s orchestra, while during the evening supper was served by a committee of ladies from Waima. A cheque for a, substantial ;imount was handed to Airs. Shine hy Mr. W. Aloat, as spokesman for the gathering, and Air. J. Scott responded oil behalf of the recipients, in the absence of Air. Shine, the latter having already departed for the south.
