INCREASE IN.AUCKLAND i». ' (Per Press Association.) ■ AUCKLAND, last night. Theraf'was a marked expansion in the Customs revenue collected at the port of Auckland during 1929 in comparison with the figures l'or 1928. This is partly accounted for by tho doubling of the primage duty as from. the beginning of last August. An increase of nearly 50 per cent, in the yield from the motor spirits duty indicates the continued growth in the use of motor vehicles. The Customs revenue and tyre tax for December, 1929, totalled £211,372, compared with £180,44.3 in 1.928.. The total for the year was £2,449,831, compared with £2,195,320 in 1928. The motor spirit duty for tho year was £325,470, compared with £226,989 in 1928. THE DUNEDIN FIGURES’' (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night. Except in the ease of beer duty, the Dunedin Customs returns for the year ended on December 31 have shown an increase on the figures for the previous year. The Customs figures show an increase of over £76,000 and tho petrol tax has increased to the extent of nearly £31,000. The beer duty, however, shows a decrease of about £2OOO.
