SALE OF BUTTER
AVERAGE OF 172/KIA ORA’S FIRST DISPATCH The first shipment of the present season’s butter from the Kia Ora Cooperative Dairy Co.’s factory has been sold in Loudon at a most satisfactory price considering 1 the state of the market. Advice was received this morning by Mr. J. H. Sunderland, secretary of tlie company, to the effect that this consignment of 2133 boxes, taken by the Karamea in October, bad been disposed of at prices ranging from 172 s to 1745, the average over the whole shipment being 1725. This consignment was one which was dispatched along with butter from other district factories by the s.s. -Jiroft to Auckland, where it connected with the Karamea. Had this course not been adopted this butter would not have arrived in London until next Saturday. In the matter of shipping charges assistance was given by the Shipping Committee as a concession for coastal freight.
The price obtained for the Karamea consignment is considered most satisfactory in view of the present state of the market, while it must also be considered that there were little or no storage charges involved. In addition, the latest advice received from London by the company is to the effect that the market is now very weak, quotations ranging from 162 s to 1645, with exceptional brands being quoted at 1665. The company’s next shipment of butter *is to arrive by the Port Melbourne next Saturday, but should not be available for the market, until about a- week later. It is hoped that in the meantime the market will improve for the Christmas trade, which this consignment will he in time to catch.
