The epiestion of the best method of the disposal of cull cows was the subject of a. lengthy discussion at a meeting of dairy farmers at Pahiatua. The chairman, Mr. G. H. Hodd, said that a cull cow drive had been established in the Wairarapa district a fewyears ago, and resulted in 1200 cows' being sent to the works the first year. He cited the case of, a farmer who was induced to cull heavily. Prom his herd of 5(1 he culled 23. These he, replaced by purchasing a similar number. The* first year his returns showed an increase of £450, and after deducting the amount (£207) paid for his new 23 cows, ho made a profit of £21;;. After a, lengthy discussion it was resolved to canvass the farmers in each district to see what support was forthcoming in favor of a cull cow drive, and to report, to the executive. A resolution was also passed to the effect that it. be made compulsory at sales of stock'for the vendors' names to be announced. CARE OF.THE COW
