ROYAL ENGAGEMENT
PRINCESS ILEANA LONDON, Sept. 26. Royal engagements, or the announcements thereof, are following hot one upon the other. Last week Princess Jose of Belgium was in the public eye. now it is rather more than rumored that Princess Ileana of Rumania is to marry King Boris of Bulgaria. Last March the Princess was stated t< be about to become engaged to the Prince of the Asturias, heir to the Spanish throne. Then, in July, her mother, Queen Marie of Rumania, arrived in Salzburg, “in order.” it was reported, “to discuss the Princess engagement to a German prince.” Eighteen months previously there were whispers in Court circles of her betrothal to Princ Alfonse Bourbon, nephew of the King of Spain. In 1926 she was said to bo engaged to the i rown Hr: nee of Italy. I( ii From which it may he gathered that Wi’inc-ess Ileana is an exceedingly attractive person. Moreover, Princess Ileana is, as European Princesses go. quite well off. and will not lack a dower. Her father left her £140,000 absolutely. which brings her in a larger income than is enjoyed by the daughters of English Sovereigns, to whom Parliament allows £6OOO a year. A very pretty girl of 22, she was partly educated in England, and has travelled with her mother in America. w herc they made a tremendous fuss of her. While she was in the States the newsnapers came out with a sensational story that she had-eloped with a youthful member of the Royal Sll j te —a story which was strongly, promptly, and properly denied.
