THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL

DEPARTURE FROM MOTU (Special to the Herald.) MOTU, this day. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergussoii, and Lady Alice b ergusson made the trip over the Motu hills this morning on their way to Opotila. .1 ho party had a good trip from Gisborne to Motu, where they arrived at about 5.20 p.m. yesterday. The desire of Their Excellencies to have a quiet night was fulfilled, as they were not asked to attend any gathering. Their Excellencies left Motu tor Opotiki at about 8.30 o’clock this morning, when the weather was beautifully fine, and with every prospect of them seeing the scenic beauties of the route. Apparently they did not intend to hurry over the hills, for they were not due at Opotiki until 12 o’clock. The prospects of having a fine trip, however, were marred somewhat when at about 10.30 a.m. the sky here became overcast, and a light misty rain began to fall.
