(llerald Corruspondent.) Mr. A. W. Moore, Nuhaka postmaster, has left for Nelson owing to the death of his mother. —Mr. D. Falconer, of Umana soldier settlement, is a patient in the County Hospital. Mr. T. McKee/ of the same settlement, is also ill. —Mr, Y. Currie has been appointed relieving assistant at the Nuhaka public school.—Sister Bennett, the Nuhaka district nurse, has returned to duty.
General regret was expressed at Thai and at the smoke concert on Wednesday night at tile absence of Mr. Henry Hill, 1 oi Napier. Mr. Hill was one of the most active of the stalwarts forming the old Waikaremoana Hydro-electric League, and it would have been a proud da v for him when His Excellency let loose the spirit of Haumapuhia. It is understood that Mr. Hill’s absence was due to the State school examinations, in which he was engaged. Among the visitors to Tuai on Wednesday were Messrs. R, S. Chadwick, chairman, H. Pickard, secretary, J. Livingstone and J. W. Effingham, representing the Ruahine Power Board One of the large boilers for the oilboring plant at Mangaone has arrived via Waikokopu, and has been taken to the site on two lorries, one very bad horseshoe bend having to he negotiated on the way. Some of the Wairoa residents were not at Tuai on Wednesday, for the following games resulted on the local bowling green : Ward, Fyson and Prebble 28 v. Davidson, Clark and J. Walker 15; A. Taylor, T. Browne, Saunders and Andresen 20 v. Goodley, Black, Noble, and Moore 16; Sheehan, L. Kendrew, Cullen, and Cruickshank 19 v. Ingoe, McGoldrick, Rutherford and A B. Smith, 16: In the Svensen fours’ rowing races, Gilligan defeated’Gay by a length. The final will be rowed on Saturday ing'Mr 11. J. Peacocko, the contractor for the construction of the Waikokopu breakwater, has landed a very massive and powerful crane for use at the Tchaenui quarry. It weighs 58 tons, and in its dismantled state occupies three large railway trucks. Mr. G. C. Ormond reports that His Excellency the Governor-General, .Sir Charles Fergusson, Lady Alice Fergusson and party had a delightful trip on Waikaremoana. on Wednesday afternoon, going through the Strait of Manaia and some distance in the direction of the Marau arm. Mr. W. A. Neale, who knows every inch of the lake, was pilot, and pointed ont the various historicspots to the Viceregal party. Among (lie others on board the launch were the Hon. E. A. Ransom and Mrs. Ransom, Captain Orr-Ewing, Mr. W. D. Lysnar, M.P., Mr. Iv. S. Williams, M.P., Miss Lysnar, Mrs. J. Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Glendinning, Mr. G. C. Ormond, Miss Ormond, Messrs. Mason Chambers and F. Logan. Mr. and Mrs. Shield supplied afternoon tea at Lake House.
