The demand and higher prices for line wools of late years has resulted in a much less use of the Lincoln for crossing purposes in the South Island, remarks the Christchurch Star, referring' to the sheep section at the Christchurch Show. This was no doubt the reason why the New Zealand and Australian Land Co. sold their well-known Hock to Victorian buyers. This flock had been represented at the Christ church Show and had furnished a great many prizo winners. The only exhibitor on this oeacsion being Oanteilbury, and -the sheep penned were well worthy of the full honors that were awarded. The first cross between the Jongwool ami the merino, so far as the breeding of rams is eoneerned; is apparently not carried out to the extent it used.to be in past years; ami the number v of entries' in- the section is therefore not large, the-highest number in any one class being four. The Down breed was more popular among breeders of lambs for export in past, years than it has been in latter days, but is nowmaking a recovery.
