DISORDERS IN ITALY
SERIOUS RIOT REPORTED THE ATTACK ON MUSSOLINI PARIS, November 12. Grave troubles are reported from the interior of Italy owing to the high cost of living and a shortage of food. There was a nine days’ revolt at Yulmona, where the Governor was killed, the Town Hall and barracks were burned, and martial law declared. A strong body of Fascists fought a pitched battle, in which live townsfolk were killed and 109 injured. Despite Homes denials of the attempt on the life of Mussolini, the Petit Nieois, a paper -printed at Nice, publishes an account by its correspondent, who spent 10 days in Italy investigating the affair.
The correspondent says that on October 10 Mussolini, accompanied by others, motored to Ostia. Mussolini, quite by chance, travelled in a Minister’s car, instead of in his own car. Later, upon his arrival at Ostia, his car was fired on, and his secretary was hit on the thigh by a rifle bullet. The police iin mediately searched the onlookers, and it was finally revealed that a Fascist officer was guilty, lie confessed and was executed the same evening without trial. A CATEGORICAL DENIAL (Received Nov. 14, noon.) ROME, Nov. Ifl. “We are ready to give £IOOO to anybody giving the name of the officer supplying details of the alleged attempted assassination,” says the Giornale d’ltalia, categorically denying the report of the attack on the Ducc.
