Prince George is confined to his room with a chill and has .cancelled his immediate engagements. Mr. William Phillips, United States Minister to Canada, has resigned. He states that he desires to leave the diplomatic service and settle with his family m New England.—A. and N.Z.C.A. Sir Ronald Lindsay has, been appointed Ambassador at Washington, ami Sir Esmond Ovey Ambassador at Moscow. Sir Robert Yansittnrt succeeds Sir Ronald Lindsay at the Foreign Office. Mr. and Mrs. S. Kingston, of Palmerston North, have arrived to take up their residence in Gisborne. Mr. Kingston is taking the position here as permanent secretary of the Y.M.C.A., being previously engaged in organisation work for various interests. Mrs. Kingston took an active part in girls’ work in Palmerston North, where she organised a club of 60 members. About 60 members of the Gisborne branch of the St. John Ambulance Association assembled in the Borough Uouncil. chambers last evening, when a hearty welcome was extended to Mr. A. ,\V. Probert, district officer, who is at present in Gisborne in order to inspect the brigade and nursing division. Mr. Probert was welcomed by the Mayor, Mr. 1). W. Coleman; president of the association, and expressed his pleasure at, inectng the visitor. Later, Mr. Probert delivered an interesting address, outlining the activities of the association since its inception. The speaker was given an attentive hearing, and at the conclusion of his address lie was neIcordcd a vote of thanks.
