Mae-Lean moved calling on the Government without delay to introduce ils scheme to increase, the minimum school leaving age to 1.5 years. Sir C. Trevelyan, replying, said he was gratified that: no great body of opinion was opposed to the raising of the age. No section of the working class objected, because it was perfectly understood it would be accompanied by maintenance grants. Side by side with this great educational change, he was trying to reorganise school work in order to give a real chance for an advance in education of all children over 11 years. He proposed to introduce a bill before Christmas
