TEACHER’S APPOINTMENT
BOARD OR MINISTER? WELLINGTON CONTROVERSY (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Education Board has another quarrel on with the department over the appointment, of the vice-principal to the Training College. According to the chairman, Mr. T. Forsyth, the present Minister of Education opposed the attitude of the department on n former occasion when for a long time the appointment of a principal was held up till the department eventualy gave way; but now supports it. It is alleged that after many conferences the Minister agreed to allow the board to readvertise the position, but the day before the advertisement appeared new regulations were slipped through on October 31, which lie. believed were simply meant to enable the Minister to appoint his nominee, to whom tho board* objected. Other boards supported the Wellington view. , Members, in the course of discussion, look the ground that they knew much better than the department who was most suitable, and a resolution was passed protesting against “this move of tho | Minister and the department in seeking to obtain centralisation and cotiitrol, and against the gross act of discourtesy in passing regulations without either consulting the boards or notifying them afterwards,” It was also decided to send tins reso- 1 lution to the Prime Minister and to other boards.
