RESCUED BY ESKIMOS
MISSING AIRMEN FORCED DOWN IN STORM (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Nov. C, 11 a.m.) VANCOUVER, Nov. f>. After being forced down in a snow storm, Pilots Eielson and Derbandt were rescued by Eskimo natives, who 'carried the half frozen airmen into a village. The hazardous nature of winter aeroplaning in Canada’s frozen north was illustrated by a dramatic fatality at Mayo, on the southern edge of the Canadian Klondike, which was reported on Monday. About the same hour news came of the disappearance of two Alaskan Airways planes, piloted h.V Lieut. Eielson, the famous companion of Sir Hubert Wilkins, and Prank Derbandt. Several planes have been operating between Mayo and Skagway, accomplishing in five hours trips which occupy weeks for dog teams. Eielson and Derbandt were long overdue from Nome, Alaska, to East ( ape, Siberia, where they expected to pick n|> six passengers andi a valuable fur cargo. it was feared that heavy snowstorms forced the planes down.
