NEW STEAMER SERVICE
LYTTELTON TO TAURANGA A steamer service between Lyttolton and Tauranga. is to he inaugurated shortly by the Richardson Shipping Co., in order to improve the existing conditions in connection with the facilities for transporting cargo from South Island ports to the Bay of Plenty. Every year ttie amount of produce find general merchandise shipped from southern ports to Tauranga has increased, till now the additional service has become almost necessary, and consequently will fill a long felt want in a district with such good prospects. So far, cargo from the South Island for Tauranga has been shipped to Auckland, where it has been'transhipped to vessels engaged in the North era Co.'s fleet, which maintains a service between Auckland and Tauranga, In. addition to providing a more adequate service between southern ports and thfc Bay of Plenty, Wuikokopu. Giftbornc, and East Coast ports will nenciit to some extent.
If is intended to make the new service a monthly one, the steamer sailing from Lyttolton for Tauranga, and calling at 'Waikokopu, Gisbome and Coast lays en route. This schedule should occupy approximately two weeks, and in the meantime the vessel will be engaged in other services. The new service will- be commenced with the s.s. Paro.ra, which sails from Gisbome to-night for Napier, thence Lyttolton.
