Firo recently destroyed stables owned by Messrs. Fitzgerald Bros., at their station at, Mangatokenni, Tolnga .Bar. The building' was insured.
In the competitions conducted last year by Mr. E. E'verqrd, of Palmerston North,' for the British and colonial industries, the following pupils of the Mangapapa. .school gained prizes for writing: Sheila Ginger 1, Jessie Bates 1, Noel Williams 1, Colin Stichbury 1, Inn, Steed 2, and Wallace Higgs 4. In addition the first prize for the best rhyme about Mount Cook was won by Joy Kendon. This prize entitles the child and one parent, to a free return trip from Timaru to Mount Cook, with one week's board at the Hermitage.
