OUTBREAKS OF FIRE

TWO BUILDINGS DAMAGED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHUROH, this day. Damage estimated at over £2OOO was done by a 'fire in the Farmers' Co-operative Association's store at Rangiora, late last night. The fir© originated in the cash office, where :'fc is believed that a radiator was left turned on, and spread to the hardware department, which contained stock valued at £.IOOO. The- brigade checked the fire in the A hardware department, where most J damage was (lone. All stock is fully * covered by insurance with Lloyds. A firo broke out yesterday afternoon in Wright, Stepnenson and Co.'s seed cleaning and dressing store in Addington. A seed cleaning machine valued at about £6OO was more or less damaged. A dust room was destroyed, and a portion of the woodwork and roofing of the main building affected. Some sacks of grain and seed were damaged by wafer. The damage is covered by insurance. DWELLING DESTROYED WOMAN'S NARROW ESCAPE (Per Press Association.) PALMERKTON N., this day. When a six-roomed dwelling at Longburn was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday evening, the oscupant, Mrs. Flanagan, narrowly escaped losing her life. Mr. Flanagan is employed at the Longburn freezing works in Wellington, and at the time of the outbreak his wifewas alone in the house. Mrs. Flanagan awoke to find the house full of smoke, and the back portion in flames. Two men, Messrs. Dahl and Crawford, passing in a car, investigated to see if they could render assistance. Inquiry of other people- at the fire revealed that there was no knowledge of anyone in the house. 150,h men decided to make sure, Mr. Dahl going in the front, and Mr. Crawford to the rear. Mr. Dahl heard a woman scream, and forced his way into the smoke-filled passage where Mrs. Flanagan was located in a completely dazed condition. Mr. „ Wahl had great difficulty in remaining sufficiently long to drag Mrs. Flanagaijjjf' out of danger on to the lawn. A bucket brigade <vas formed and a small shed saved.
