FLYING POLICE
AEROPLANE TRAFFIC RULES NEW YORK, Sept. 11. “Flying Policemen” will soon patrol the airways above New York if the recommendation of the Police Commissioner, Mr. Wlmlen, supported by the Mayor, Mr. Walker, is approved by the city authorities. Rigid traffic rules for the regulation of aeroplanes are to be drawn up and a fleet of machines manned by “Air Traffic Cops” will be employed to enforce them. Several accidents in the vicinity of New York recently as the result of aviation activities have led to complaints against pilots who “hit and fly away,” and Mr. Whalen deems it necessary to train, policemen who can apprehend violators of the flying code. “Hit and fly” tactics are a parallel to those of the reckless motorists, known as “hit anil run” drivers, who knock pedestrians down and drive on without stopping.
