PURIFYING RUGBY

In an effort to stamp out rough play in the Rugby championship matches, .the Pyrenees committee is fining clubs whoso players are sent off the field for foul play. The fines are graded according to the status of the clubs, the most prominent of which are mulct in a 50s fine for a member’s misbehaviour. The fines arc deductable from the gate receipts. The authorities are concerned about the growth of professionalism and roughness. The French Chamber shortly debates the question of purifying the game.
