CROCODILES LAY SIEGE
£ - ,/J'IlK HAUUJ-;, Sept. :io, Ho rapidly have the crocodiles increased in the Martapura River in South-east Borneo that, according to despatches, thev have overpowered the popufij'fli'bn iu thy capital of the district of Bciioa Anjer. The inhabitants are obliged to .lock themselves in the houses, and natives who have tried to escape were attacked in tho river by •thousands of crocodiles and devoured. So far 80 victims arc reported, and the whole village is completely, .surrounded by tho monsters. The Dutch Indian Gfovefnineht was catted in to 'aid in extermidatiem of the pests.
