GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL

BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET The monthly Meeting of the Gisborne High School Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Mr. L. 'f. Burnard, presiding. There were also present Messrs. J. R. Kirk, J. Kinder, R. Robertson, G. Crawshaw, H. E. Bright, and C. Blackburn. The visiting committee reported: “The committee visited the school on Wednesday, September 26. The contractor is making good progress with the levelling of tins ground at the back of the school. Arrangements have, been made to replace the post and wire fence along the property of Mosdames Burke and Smith. The wooden hoarded fence along Sister Dalgairiis’ boundary requires putting in order, and arrangeare being made to have half the cost met by the owner. The formation and gravelling of a path is required round the back of the school and along the vegetable garden to Dominion road. Regarding School road, the committee recommend that no further action le taken tin the meantime. It is recommended that provision bo made for an entraneo gate on the Stanley road side, of the new football and cricket ground. Provision for water on this ground is also required. The horses are at present grazed in the hostel grounds, anil as this will not be possible in the hockey season, it is recommended that if suitable arrangements can be made a suitable paddock bo leased near the school for this purpose. The committee agreed that an electric heater be installed in Miss Prestwick’s sitting room. The tennis courts will require repairing in the near future:”—The report was adopted, and it was decided to give effect to the recommendations. The rector, Mr. F. Foote, reported: “The total on the roll of the secondary department is now 420, compared with 473 on March 1. The number includes 253 boys and 167 girls. There are 13 boys and 19 girls in the preparatory department. Boarders total 76 boys and 26 girls.”
