WOMEN STAMMERERS
UNDOUBTEDLY FEW LONDON, September 15. A worried woman took her little girl to Dr. Tuner, in Richmond, Tasmania, stating that she thought the child was tongue-tied. “Take her away, woman,” retorted, the doctor. “Whoever heard of a woman .being tongue-tied!” The story is recalled by the discussion in the Times and elsewhere about a stammering woman. The original correspondent stated that he had never known a woman who stammered. Dr. Parker states that the Manchester Stammering School finds that quite 90 per cent, of of stammerers are males. Mr. Stanley Jones, a city man, says that he has never known a grown-up woman stammerer. The headmistress of a girls’ school says that a number of girls stammer but; they generally grow out of it in a few years. Dr. Winifred Oullis saiys that' she knew women student stammerers, but they were undoubtedly few.
