MANGAPAPA LODGE

ANNUAL FANCY DRESS BALL The carnival spirit reigned in t lie Assembly Hall last evening, when the Mangapapa' Lodge, No. 110, 1.0.0. F., held its first annual plain and fancy dress ball. The ballroom was attractively decorated with long strings of colored streamers, while bundles of greenery adorned the wails. Some 150 couples danced to music dispensed by Mrs. Aitken's orchestra, and the number of quaint and pretty costumes gave the surroundings a bright effect. Dancing was continued into the early hours of this morning, the revellers 'being loud in their praise of the floor and tasteful supper. The largo and beautiful assortment of costumes gave the judges. Miss (.kilo, Mr. A. T. Coleman, and Dr. ? It. M. Chinn, a hard task, and it w'(ls some time before they finally announced the following awards: —Best set: “Pack of cards” 1. Ladies’ fancy dress: Miss I’aldrey (“Night”) 1. Ladies’ most humorous costume: Miss V. Clear (“Chinese lady”) 1. Ladies’ most original costume: Miss ITedley (“Time and Tide Waiteth for no Man”) 1. Ce,ntlonian's most humorous costume: Mr. H. McKnight (“Nigger”) 1. No awards were made, in the classes for gentlemen’s best ami most original costumes. tbc prizes going to Misses Is. and P. liai (Red Pierrettes”). Miss Sand laid. (“Hoop-la”) was awarded a special prize. Much credit was due to the members of the committee, who were mainly responsible for the success of flic function. The duties of M’s.C, were capably carried out by Messrs. (!. W. Hilton, S. P. Rroingan, ami F. Williamson. Other lodges were represented as follow : U.A.0.D., Brother Stevens. A.D. ; M. I 0.0. F., Brother Walworth, N. ; Foresters, Brother Vaughan; Hibernian, Brother T. Haisman, jmi. ; Star of Oishorne, Brother W. Izod ; flisborhe Rebekah i.0.0.F., Sister Cornelius; Orango Lodge, Brollier AV. Pritchard.
