STREET COLLECTIONS
SHOPKEEPERS’ PROTEST INJURIOUS TO TRADE {Special to the Herald.) f AUCKLAND, this day. The Opinion that stands for street collections should not be placed'outside shops in the city was expressed in a letter from a shopkeeper, received by the Auckland Chamber of Comlnefce council. It was stated that collections were not good for trade, and that they should be made only outside the premises of banks or insurance companies. Tile secretary, Dr. E. P. Neale, said a suggestion had been made that collectors' stands should not always be in the same places. Shopkeepers found that it interfered with trade, and one man had stated that people would not even pause. to look at his window displays because a collection was being made on the footpath outside his shop. * ‘ There is no objection to collections being made," said the chairman, Mr.. H. T. Merritt, "the only question concerns localities where they should be made." It Was decided to confer with the interested organisations.
