NEW ERA DAWNS

POLITICS IN IRAQ NEARER INDEPENDENCE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) fßdeeivetljSepL 20, 3 p.m.) BAGDAD, Se-pL 20. The political situation in Iraq is greatly changed following the British Government’s offer to recommend unconditionally Iraq’s entrance to the League of Nations in 1932, whereby all parties -have been placated. A new Cabinet has been formed under the Premiership of Sir Abdul Sadmi. A communique announced that the late Sir Gilbert Clayton had impressed the Labqr -Cabinet with the advisability of an early decision on Iraq’s demand to enter the League as a means of terminating existing treaties. It. is regretted that the British reply was eu route while Sir Gilbert Clayton was, dying. it would have given liiin pleasure to communicate it personally to Iraq. The British reply also announces the decision not to proceed with the 1927 treaty, but it will be necessary to conclude <‘i treaty before 1930 to regulate Anglo-Iraq relations. A draft treaty will be prepared, based on the Anglo-Egvptian settlement. Sjr Abdul Sadun, in accepting the Premiership, said the offer satisfied part- of the aspirations of the Iraq nation, which would accept nothing in the long run falling short of completeindependence. The new situation is yogardt'd as a direct result of the Labor .Cabinet’s policy in the Middle East. TheCabinet includes Yassin -Pasha, whp is; closely identified with .the Nationalists.
