AUGUST’S RAINFALL
LOWEST SINCE 1922 Last month’s rainfall was the lowest for August, for seven years, file total being only 2.6 Din. on 12 days, compared with 4.95 in. during the past 50 years, t he driest August on record was 1922, when only 61 points’ fell, while the wettest, was in 1898, wlkmi 13.60 in. was recorded.
It is interesting to note that the rainbill for the last three months, usually the wettest, ones in the year, only aggregated Q.63in.,' while in April the full was no less than 8.63 in., and in May, 8.33 in. The total for the first eight months of the present year has been reduced considerably by the light falls of recent months, and is now considerably below that for the corresponding period of Inst year, and only very slightly in excess of the 1927 figures. The popularity of country dances should attract enthusiasts to the Manutuko Tennis Club’s annual ball, to be held in the Manutuke Memorial Hall tomorrow evening. Members of the visiting hockey teams will be entertained during the evening. The catering is in I tie bands of a capable committee, which is sparing no efforts to make to-morrow night’s entertainment an outstanding success.
