METHODIST CHURCH

ANNUAL SALE OF WORK A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION A large measure of success attended the annual sale of work held in tho City Hall this afternoon under the auspices of the Bright street Methodist Church, the proceeds being in aid of the trust fund. The hall presented an attractive appearance with the artistically decorated stalls arranged along the walls and down tilio centre of the building, while the dainty displays of foodstuffs, flowers, and fancy goods were inviting. The function was opened by the May o1 ', Mr. D- W. Coleman, and the stallholders and afternoon tea attendants were kept- busy for the remainder of the afternoon. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. aud Mrs. D. W. Coleman, were introduced by the Rev. G. Frost, who referred to the. work of the ladies’ guild of the •Methodist Church. Between 30 and 40 .members met once a month to discuss the affairs of the church, and their work .was carried out in a splendid and efficient manner. This was the sixth annual sale of work held by the Methodist Church, approximately £IOO having beer, realised on each of the previous occasions, and the speaker expressed a, .wish that the amount would be exceeded this year. The church also had an enthusiastic band of girl workers, and ftbeir services in connection with the Church work was of a fine nature. Mr. Frost concluded by expressing a hope that the stalls would be depleted of their tempting goods by the evening. ‘indications nniv't towards this being a very successful fmW' v ~ ” commented the Mayor, in opening the bazaar. “It Was about this time last year that I •performed a similar function, and 1 congratulated the ladies upon their sterling efforts. I can safely do the same again this afternoon It we had come into this hall this morning we would) have found things in a very different slate to what they are now, and the 1 ladies of the guild deserve much credit for their work in connection with tliei preparations for this sale. I am sure that the Methodist Church, like every other organisation, would not be able to hold such functions with any degree) of..aUOCeqs .if it were not for the ladies. I hope last year’s effort will be extajpa/’ added Mr. Coleman, who then declared the function open. In a few words, the Mayoress extended congratulations to the ladies whose efforts were largely responsible for the success of the function.
