Bert Brown, who has just returned from America, lias been matched to light Lcsiie. of Auckland, for £IOO, at Hamilton, about August 26. CONDITIONS IN SYDNEY COMMENT BY J. LECKIE On bis arrival at Palmerston North from Auckland, Johnnie Leckie, the Dunedin boxer, intimated that he was not altogether satisfied with Australian boxing conditions "(reports the Dominion). Purses over there, he said, were very meagre at the present time, the general arrangement being that a win or lose boxer received 25 per cent, of the takings. The Australian rates of income tax were also heavy, and no allowance, was made for expenses. The sport was almost completely on a basis of a business. In Sydney the boxing rules were very loose, and boxers got away with certain work that would not bo tolerated in New Zealand. Syduey boxing enthusiasts were a very rowdy lot. If a boxer pleased them, they let him know, and in no uncertain manner they likewise informed him if be did not. Boxing, however, Leckie considered, had slumped in Australia, while the wrestling boom seemed completely .broken.
