RUSH FOR CLAIMS
5000 DIGGERS COMPETE LIC'HTENBURG, June 21. Over 5000 diggers assembled this morning to participate in the rush on the •faun, Llizabeth, adjoining Grasfontein. Each digger was given a numbered peg and the certificates were placed in ballot boxes, of which 23 were erected along a line, GOO yards long. At a signal, balloting for licenses took place at all boxes simultaneously. ■So soon as the names were called the diggers dashed forward, showed their pegs and rushed off to coveted spots, most of which were about four miles from the starting line, which was in the middle of the farm. Within a few minutes the veld was dotted with running figures, old and young, all making for the desired claims.
