ENGINEER'S MONTHLY REPORT (Herald Correspondent.) Reporting to the Waikohu County Council to day on the work earned out m the county tor the mouth ended duly ol the engineer, Mr. A. (I. Mr. King has taken the contract for approaches to the Scott's Creek bridge, and will be making a start this week. Hangs are now engaged widening the jiakauroa-Tahora track as relief work under the Public Works Department. The surfacemen on the Koranga highway have been enuaued "leaning watertables and patching where necessary. Green's road from the railway road to Mr. Hreen's gate has been metalled and rolled. A 3ft. culvert has been put in on the Rakauroa-Tahora road in place, of the. culvert that was washed out and teams are. engaged Idling over Ibis. The slip on the deviation is still giving trouble. Men are mw engaged building a stone, wall at „ slip near Mr. McPhee's, and another gang is engaged tilling on Hie Otoko side of the bridge on the deviation. Extra- culverts have been put in at "Rakauron. Metal is being railed to Otoko and as soon as this has all arrived tenders will be called to put it on the Otoko hill and do up the had places. The team is still engaged cleaning watertables on the Otoko Hill. The contractor for putting metal on the south side of the Otoko Tlil' has carted about 500 cubic yards. The timber has been carted out to Waihuka suspension bridge to repair the decking. Tho old slips on tho Motu front road have again started to move and in these places it is awkward for motor traffic. The usual maintenance work has been carried out. "Mangatu lading.—The timber and gear are now being taken out to the roadman's cottage on the Mangnmaia road and a start will shortly be made to rebuild the porch and put a- chimney In the kitchen. Culverts have been pul in on this end of Armstrong road owing to the wooden ones collapsing. A 'team will be sent- an fo clean up Kaitara road as soon as the weather pet mils. The usual maintenance work' has been carried out. "Waipaoa riding.—Timber is now on hand to straighten the Te Han bridge. The metalling on the Puha-Whatatutu road is proceeding and the grader is grading in the metal. Several new culverts are required on this road and will be put in as soon as possible; the grader party will clean up all the watertables. Instructions have been given to have the road metalled at the entrance to tho hall at Wliatatutu. A learn will lie put on next month on the river road to clean out the cuttings. Maintenance work was carried out. in the usual manner. "Ngatapa riding.—Several places on the road beyond Here have become very bad owing to heavy carting, and instructions have been given to the surfaceman to stop any lorries from cartHug on this porCon ; all slips have now been cleared off Cnis road. The shingle from Mr. Semmens' woolshed to Rere lias been graded in. The member for the riding and I met several ratepayers r>n Falkner's road during the month with [regard to metalling the bad places. The blinding of the metalling to Here has I been completed. The usual maintenance work has been carried out in this riding. "Kanakanaia riding. Tenders are called for the delivery'of 500 cubic yards of metal for the Kanakanaia road. The painting of tho steel bridge is nearly mushed. On inspection I find that one of the caps on this bridge has rotted and will have to he renewed before long. The surfaceman has been engaged cleaning watertables. The grader has done, some cleaning up on the meta.l portions. Maintenance has been carried out as usual on the top end. "Karaka. riding.—Good progress has been made with the contracts for remetalliug the main road. The surfaceman and tho grader Rang ha«e been trimming up and patching. A broken (advert on Pitcher's road was repaired."
