While the capital and the adjacent districts arc suffering from excessive heat, the continued drought threatening a water famine, yesterday Niigata was flooded severely, the deluge causing landslides and interrupting the railways. One train was overturned. Hundreds of houses were washed away, and many deaths from drowning arc reported.
