CITY V. WAIMA AIREY BANNER FINAL (Herald Correspondent.) On Saturdn' senior and' junior teams from the City and Waima clubs met in Tokomaru Bay, in the finals of tho knock-out (competition for tho Airey Banner and tho Farmers' Pennant respectively. There was a very poor attendance of tho public, which was their loss, as both games were very fair. The clubs fielded full teams, although junior - had to be used to fill up gaps in both, senior teams. Tho junior game resulted in a win for City by 8 points to 0. Erie Hale obtained two tries, one of which Colbert converted. Mr. J. Cookery was referee. Only 25-minute spells were played, owing to lateness in starting the game. The senior game ended Waima 14, City 3, but the match was much closer than the difference in Scores would seem to indicate. Although the better team won, for quite a good part of the game play was in Waima. territory, and City had bad luck in not scoring on two or three occasions. Both games were played in a good spirit, although in the senior game the referee was a little tot easy in the ease of a Waima player who tripped an opponent, i'he tac.vlmg w • '•>*l ter than has been seen here this season. Mr. M. Forrester was referee. City starid with 14 men, hid the gaj was filled early in the game. City attacked strongly and rushed play to Waima., and the latter forced. After some strenuous play in midfield the Waima forwards carried play to the City twenty-five, a lin'e-kick relieving. Play ran up and down the field for a few minutes, until Rarigi Ryland got a u, av. Ins strength enabling him to fend off all opposition and score in the corner. —Waima 3, City 0. A good combined rush by Waima was stopped by Jackson and Hale, but just- afterwards Morrell received the ball from Peter Kopua, and ran over, R. Newton converting.— Waima 8, City 0. A free ki«k io City for obstruction shifted play io Waima’s twenty-five, but the ball was soon hack in City territory. F. Jackson stopped a dangerous rush and Citv became tliattackers, slowing up well for about 10 minutes. Wt.iina forced two or three times in succession. For City, Jackson. Mount, Colbert and Little were always nrominent. A very heady piece of plav bv Colbert teamed pla.v well into Waima’s twenty-five. Half-time found Citv attacking strongly. City were handicapped when resuming play, as the sun, coming out strongly, was shining right in their eves. From nlav in City’s twenty-live, Colbert ear tied the ball right into the opposin'-twentv-fire. Two or three penalty kicks helped City to keyo play in the We.im" terriiory. City 'breed. Waima follow imr in a minute or two. Play for some time was very even, until Tom PoC" got over for Citv; the kick was a poster —Waima 8. City 3. Towards the end City seemed to tire, and from a serum on the line Peter Kornui dived throm-' and scored, making Waima’s score 11.
