The Victorian Railway Department wifi shortly enter on a campaign to “Eat More Milk,’’ in order to increase the sale of butter and cheese. The ranks of the unemployed in Gisborne will bo diminished slightly by the resumption of operations at the Hume Dipe Co.'s factory in Carnarvon street. On Friday the factory was reopened for the coming season, and nine local men have been taken on ■for work in the yards. In addition ig the usual orders for pipes for culverts and stormwater anu other drains in the borough and Cook and \Vuikoiui counties, the company this year will fulfil the requirements of the Public, Works Department in the way of con crcto pipes and culverts for the railway works at Kopua, ami it is under-, Stood that the requirements will be fairly heavy, although no amount has been specified by the deparmeut. Last ; year when the factory uas opened it. > was expected that the orders would be fulfilled within three months, but the requirements of 'the borough and eoun ties necessitated the work being continued for seven mouths, and it is anticipated that the factory will bo kejpt open for an equally long period this peaion.
