DARING ATTEMPT
PLOT TO WEBOK TRAIN CALCUTTA, July 17. Past acts of sabotage arc recalled by a daring attempt in the early hours of Sunday morning to wreck India's principal long-distance train, the Punjab mail, at Dumra, a wayside station 285 miles north of Calcutta. Two hours before the mail was due, the stationmaster telephoned the next station, saying that he had heard some noises on the line a short distance from the station, and that he suspected tampering. The stationmaster at Pursee station advised pulling up the express before it reached the station —normally, it doog not stop at Dumra. On inspection, a rail was found to be removed within a few yards of a culvert. The express pulled up only 25 yards from the spot where the damage bad been done.
