SHOW ARRANGEMENTS

A. AND P. JUBILEE SCHEDULE ALTERATIONS Much time was spent by the Poverty Bay A. and I*. Association's general coinuiitiee at its meeting on Saturday afternoon in going through the scheduled for the forthcoming jubilee show. A number of new conditions were framed, some classes deleted, and many added where it was thought their inclusion would be warranted. One of the most attractive features it was proposed to give a trial this year was a parade of motor-cars and motorlorries included in the trad© exhibits. This parade, it was agreed, should be on similar lines to the usual parade of prize-winners in the stock sections, and it was thought it would attract a great deal of interest, as well as giving motor dealers an added inducement to take stands at the show. When discussing the horse section, it was decided that all stallions must he provided with*rods or staffs, and that all must be muzzled so that the animals would be under proper control and be a means of preventing possible accidents. It was decided that no polo pony under 14.3 hands should be eligible for tho championship, but that there should be no standard height for the ordinary polo pony classes. A rule was made that before a beast would bo eligible for a championship in the cattle classes ifc must be registered in the herd book of the breed it represented. As had been indicated previously, the meeting decided to eliminate the fat cattle classes this year, as the accommodation on the Park racecourse had been dismantled, and it had been impossible to arrange for the re-erection of the pens on the pew grounds adjacent, as the recently-levelled ground .would not have consolidated sufficiently to bear the trampling of the cattle. It was made clear, however, that the elimination of the section this year was onlv a temporary measure. Dealing with the sheep classes, the: meeting resolved that no stud sheep be awarded championships unless the animals were eligible for inclusion in stud books. Two classes were added in the Southdown section, ope for ai shorn ram hogget, and the other for a shorn ewe hogget. In order to encourage exhibits ftom small farmers, it; was decided to decrease the numbers required in certain cases. The class for K pen of 10 crossbred ewes was amended to provide for the showing of only five such sheep. It was decided to delete the class for a pen of five crossbred long-woolled ewe hoggets. A ruling was mado that exhibits for all freezing classes for fat sheep and lambs be weighed on the grounds before penning. Alterations calculated to produce more entries fiom the small farmers were made in the pig classes. For the class for four porkers, estimated to weigh from 801 b. to 1001 b.. only two pigs will be required from each entrant, while for three bacon pigs from 1301 b. to 1601 b. dead weight only one animal will be needed, and for the class for three weaners suitable for pork exhibitors will require to show only /wo. A class for two weaners suitable for bacon pigs was added. Classes added in the poultry section were one for white runner ducks and khaki Campbell ducks, while in addition classes for Angora, and Chinchilla rabbits were included. Twenty new classes were added in the dog section, the main being provision for novices, limits and juniors. It was pointed out that a ladies' committee was working on the home industries section, and already great progress had been made, the result being that a particularly attractive schedule had been produced. A .definition of a maiden was framed, jn connection with the jumping competi-! tions, i this being that a maiden be deemed a horse that had not previously won a first prize at an A. and P. show.
