ELECTION ISSUE LONDON, May 14. Lloyd's underwriters are now stepping "into the political arena to assist prospective politicians. Acting in conjunction with a firm oi London brokers, they are undertaking insurance designed to cover unexpected reverses, under which defeated candidates can recover their forfeited deposits and expenses up to £IOOO. the premiums vary according to the cases, forlorn hopes being unacceptable. Proposal fou* are being sent out to every candidate at the general election, asking the size of the electorate, the results at tho last four, elections, and tho candidate's previous performances, if he or she has formerly contested a. seat. The deposits of the 1700 candidates total more than £250,000.
