£loo NOT ENOUGH
JACK PAUL'S DISGUEST Jack Paul reckons he should have been offered more than £IOO for a fight with Artie Hay, and is so disgusted about things that he hints that he will shortly be returning to Australia after his co'ntest with Trowern in Christchurch proving such a poor affair. Paul was lucky to command such a good purse, and he would have been well advised to accept the money offering, with a view to showing that his display in Christchurch was not indicative of his true form. Johnny Leekio has frequently fought for less "than £IOO and as a draw card Paul cannot be compared with Leekio. Big Jim Leckie, the former heavyweight amateur champion of Now Zealand, has blossomed out as an instructor, and at the forthcoming novice tournament in Dunedin will have 12 boys in hand. An offer has been made to Freddy Welsh by the Napier Boxing Association to engage in a contest at Napier on June 19 (reports a Wellington correspondent). Welsh, a featherweight, is one of the three Welsh boxers at present in Sydney, who were brought out under contract to the Leichhardt Stadium some months ago. Welsh has a draw to his credit with Johnny Cuthbert, the British feather champion and Lonsdale Belt holder. The Wellington association is considering matching Taney Morgan, another of the team, with the winner of the Hurne-Taylor contest. If business is successfully transacted, Morgan will appear here during the middle of June. Billy Thomas, a welterweight, the third member of the "team, has not yet received an offer from New Zealand. ' He would be a good opponent for Hay Trowern and possibly Broadfoot.
